All in all, Helldivers 2 is a fantastic co-op game with lots of content (and arguably the best structure to live service I’ve seen in a long time) wrapped up in a nice $quarenta package. The price point is right (even if you take into consideration the additional $20 “upgrade”), the content is plentiful and it feels like a game that respects your time. I genuinely have a hard time saying anything negative about the game, especially now that the servers are stabilized and the developers are active on Twitter (X, if you care about that detail) updating the community about game updates and stability hiccups.

Plus, some elements of the post-processing, like the screen-space reflections, didn't give very much of an Unreal impression to me. It turns out that the game is using a modified version of the discontinued Autodesk Stingray game engine, which makes more sense. A variant of this engine powered the excellent Warhammer 40K: Darktide, and while Helldivers 2 isn't quite as striking, I think the game looks strong overall. But Environmental critiques are fine but perhaps miss the point: Helldivers 2 is an action-packed title, and much of your time is spent engaging with the game's insect and robotic foes. These firefights can look pretty extraordinary, especially when all four players are tightly clustered, trying to defend an objective. The key here is how enemies react when shot: each bullet strike spawns little bits of blood or smoke, alongside chunks of viscera or mechanical bits. It makes the simple act of firing at enemies satisfying.
, but multiple Arrowhead developers have confirmed on the official Helldivers 2 Discord server that one is being worked on, and that it will be revealed once the studio deploys improvements and fixes for Helldivers 2 bugs and launch issues.
The same could happen with Arrowhead's co-op shooter at some point down the line, giving folks invested in Microsoft's wider gaming ecosystem an opportunity to play Helldivers 2 without buying it directly.

The various settings options mostly speak for themselves. There are two options of note though. The volumetric fog option seems to alter the resolution of the volumetric lighting in general, with lower resolution results at lower settings, while the anti-aliasing toggle actually does work Helldivers 2 Gameplay properly on PC, completely turning off any AA treatment. It's weird that this setting doesn't do anything on PS5 but at least it functions as described on PC. However, the lack of any form of reconstruction option such as DLSS, XeSS or even FSR 2 is a real shame. Instead, a simple spatial upscaler is used, which bears the hallmarks of the OG FSR, just like PS5. Unfortunately, the unexciting visual settings do mean that the upgrades over PS5 aren't as large as you might expect. There's little difference between the PC at max settings at 4K and the PS5 in its quality mode, absent some slightly higher resolution shadows and a bit of a cleaner image. It still doesn't provide a pristine image though and aliasing remains a significant problem.
Online games like this one often launch alongside a roadmap that informs players when the developers plan to add specific types of new content in future updates. There's not an official publicly released roadmap for Helldivers 2 yet
The gameplay is still largely similar from the first game, you choose from a list of missions with varying difficulty levels and objectives and get dropped into the map from a landing spot of your choice. You can choose to accomplish the missions immediately if you so desire, or you can aim to complete every side objective in the mission.

With a squad of 4, you can optimize your group’s loadouts as well as giving each other designated roles for what weapons and equipment to use for each mission. It’s a game that’s definitely worthy of your time and money, as I think this game is for everyone to enjoy. So what are you waiting for? It’s time to join the Helldivers and become a hero.
